Chess expert Michael Yip used to play chess in Vancouver and then he sold one of his condos, rented out the other and left for Budapest, Hungary. He's been there for years, living the chess dream.
I must say, I'm a bit jealous. I wish I could just play chess all year. But I also have other dreams. Like teaching my growing kids a few things; and becoming a professional landscape blogger. But still, it must be nice to play lots of chess. All year.
One surprising thing is that Michael hasn't really rocketed his FIDE ELO. I would move to Hungary if I wanted a CM or FM titles. In practice though, it's very tough to gain lots of rating points. Michael's rating as of today is 1949.
Here's one of his recent games.
